Jake Bolan has one major hope for this football season at Webster Thomas, stay healthy!

The Titans senior quarterback missed most of last season with a foot injury, then re-injured it again and missed much of the basketball season as well.

“I'm doing well now," Bolan said as the Titans prepared for Saturday’s opener at Penfield. “I had surgery on it in the off-season. I've been working real hard to get my body back in shape. Hopefully, it all paid off.”

Q: What's the feeling senior year heading the season?
A: It's all or nothing now. This is it.

Q: What have you been doing to prepare for this season?
A: Lots of lifting, lots of workouts, film study, pretty much anything that can help put me ahead of the game. I went to a lot of camps, and it's helped me out a lot.

The Titans are looking to get back to winning football this year.

“As you know we were 4-6 two years ago and 2-8 last year, so not too good a record,” Bolan said. “We're just trying to do the best we can. Whatever happens, happens.”

Thomas coach Scott Deuschle is looking to rebound this season as well.

“We struggled as a whole last year, just with injuries and things of that nature,” Deuschle said. “We weren't as productive as I wanted to be offensively.

“This year I think our offensive line is better, so hopefully our running game can compliment what we do in the air.”

Bolan does have experience as quarterback.

“Jake is a third-year varsity player,” said Deuschle. “We brought him up his sophomore year, due to an injury. He had a great sophomore year. He has been working real hard in the off-season in the weight room, plus throwing, plus all the camps he's been going to. He's definitely coming in with a different mind set than in the past.

“Jake wasn't able to finish the season due to a foot injury, then he tweaked it in basketball, so it's definitely been a long rehab for him. It's great to see him focused. With Zach Smith and Joe Geloso back (also from injuries), they’re probably our premier three leaders on this team.”

Thomas should get a good test on Saturday against an improved Penfield team.
