Webster Schroeder opened its field hockey season on Tuesday afternoon with a 7-0 victory over Gates Chili at McAvoy Park.

Becka Irwin, Julie Anderson, and Allison Seitz scored two goals apiece for the Lady Warriors.
Mikaela Thompson opened the scoring two minutes in to the action with a rebound off a penalty corner. Anderson followed less than two minutes later, also off a penalty corner.

The Warriors tacked on four goals in the second half. Seitz opened and closed the scoring eight minutes apart as Irwin and Anderson netted their second tally each in-between.

Schroeder fired 19 shots on three Lady Spartan goalies combined for 12 saves.

“We did a lot of good things,” said Schroeder coach Becky Adams. “We still have a lot of things we need to work on. Overall, I think the girls did fairly well.”

The Warriors have nine seniors on the squad this season.

“They’ve worked hard over the summer and are very intense this year,” Adams said. “It doesn’t seem to be a cliquey team and that translates into a well-bounded team.

“I’m looking forward to our games, and hopefully we’ll put some goals up and be very competitive with the other teams.”
