Bay Tile, Marble & Terrazzo Co., 760 S. Clinton Ave., Rochester, recently celebrated its 60th anniversary of doing business in Rochester.
The company has stayed in the DiProsa family since it was established in 1956. It is the oldest family-owned commercial tile contractor in Rochester.
Bay Tile was started by Adolph DiProsa after coming to the U.S. from Italy, where he learned the stonemason’s craft. His son, John, has been running the day-to-day operations of the business since 1972.
“My dad started teaching me at an early age,” John DiProsa said. “I’m proud and committed to growing the business my dad started 60 years ago. We’ve enjoyed success by always staying true to who we are and always putting our clients first. I’ve never lost sight of the vision my dad had for this company. Not too many people love coming to work everyday. I’m pretty lucky.”
Bay Tile specializes in commercial tile work and has influences the growth of the Rochester community with its skilled work in hospitals, schools and colleges. The company continues to grow; it currently employs 18 people. General manager George Leva has worked at Bay Tile for 20 years.
“I admire the business John has grown and, more importantly, the person he is,” Leva said. “We’re honest, hard workers, and our clients know that.”
