Gates Chili junior Erica Rayter recently claimed gold in the women’s open quad division at the Empire State Games in Buffalo. Raytner teamed with Pittsford’s Hope Sheils and Buffalo area residents Corinne Kazmierczak and Charlotte Lane.
“The team was pretty much thrown together when we got there,” Rayter said.
The quad won relatively handily, coming in a 6:27.82, nearly 10 seconds faster
The Brighton Crew rower also teamed with rival Sheils— who races for Pittsford— to earn a bronze medal in the women’s double. The team finished in 9:22.54 after just a few practices before the Games.
“She’s a pretty big rival most of the time, but we worked well together,” Rayter said. “It was awesome because you work so hard all year and it’s nice to see your hard work pay off.”
