Authorities say a second woman has died after a minivan carrying nine members of an Ohio family crashed into a tree along the Thruway in western New York.
They say 36-year-old Hanh Nguyen of Cleveland was pronounced dead at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., Tuesday morning. Troopers say 64-year-old Hang Phan of Cleveland was pronounced dead Monday at the hospital.
Troopers say 39-year-old Hung Tran of Cleveland was driving the van when it ran off the westbound lanes into a tree in the Chautauqua County town of Portland, 45 miles southwest of Buffalo.
Police say six other people — three adults and three children — were taken to hospitals in Erie, Buffalo and nearby Westfield. One adult was in critical condition, one child was in serious condition and the others suffered injuries that aren't life threatening.
