A list compiled by MSN Real Estate ranking the most livable bargain markets nationwide placed Rochester in the top spot.
Saying that the area provides "a lot of bang for your buck," the ranking says Rochester has a diversified economy, short commutes and recreational opportunity.
"It has big-city culture, a highly educated population, picturesque scenery, affordable housing and an expanding high-tech job base," says the report.
County Executive Maggie Brooks said she's proud and encourage by the ranking.
"Monroe County continues to work diligently in collaboration with public and private sector partners to make our area a competitive destination for jobs and economic investment – an effort that is clearly paying off," Brooks said in a statement. "Our record of fiscal responsibility and property tax stability has also been critical to maintaining the vital services that contribute to our world-class quality of life. However, because more always remains to be done, Monroe County will continue expanding upon our efforts to make our community an even better place to live, work, and raise a family in the days to come.”
Following suit on the list is Sioux City in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, Pittsburgh, Waterloo and Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Lafayette, Ind.
