Rochester woman dies in the Monroe County Jail

An investigation is underway to find out why an inmate died in the Monroe County Jail. The sheriff’s office says a 53-year-old woman died Thursday morning.

News 10NBC is told Maria Viera of Rochester was arrested Tuesday night on drug charges and on Thursday morning, she was found unconscious by deputies and medical staff on their morning rounds. They started CPR and took her to Strong Hospital where Viera was pronounced dead.

The Monroe County Medical Examiner's office is doing an autopsy. The sheriff’s office says there were no visible signs of trauma.
