When the town of Webster closed the former Ridgecrest senior center facility late last month, that meant a move of the town’s senior center, too.

Problem is, there’s no kitchen and not enough room at the new facility on Chiyoda Drive — at least not yet — to accommodate the center.

Instead, the Webster Senior Center has been temporarily relocated to the Damascus Center, 979 Bay Road.

“It’s just one big room now, but it fits 150 people,” said Traci Ruffell, senior center coordinator. “We’re in the process of purchasing some partitions.”

Seniors who use the center appear to be taking it in stride.

Peter Olijnyk said he likes the new center. “It’s a better view, but we’re not staying long,” he said.

The center’s move is temporary, until an addition with a kitchen can be built at the town’s new Chiyoda Drive community center, Ruffell said.

Pat Sofia predicted the center would be at the temporary location for 18 months to two years.

“It’s comfortable,” she said of the new space. “Plus, there’s a walking path and pavilion outside when the weather gets better.”

Dolores Perrone said she likes the new facility just fine “so far,” too.

“It (getting out to the center) is an outing,” Sofia said. “Plus, the people are friendly.”
