Students from Spain will be staying in the northeast suburbs of Rochester this summer — and the program that will bring more than a dozen Spaniards still needs host families.
Global Friendships will bring 15 students to Rochester to learn about American holidays, idioms and culture, along with exploring the greater New York region in weekly excursions.
The students will live as members of their host families, as classes and excursions run Monday through Thursday. The weekends are left for the students to become a part of their host families’ typical weekend lives, going with them on day trips or vacations.
Coordinator Deb Scott says hosting a student is a great experience for those with students still in school. Her family has hosted students previously, and Scott’s daughter is excelling in Spanish classes because of the immersion program, she said.
“It’s really about developing friendships around the world, one person at a time,” she said.
